Georgia Pacific, one of the world's leading manufacturers of wood pulp and paper products, sought a partner to help them make a commercial success out of a product that had been tried, but never successfully designed. They wanted to create a reliable hands-free towel dispenser for use in public restrooms.
GP knew the idea was a winner, but difficulties in paper consistency, perforation strength, and design mechanics had proven to be the undoing of previous attempts at realizing its potential. They turned to NPI with the challenge of seamlessly marrying design and engineering solutions with manufacturing capabilities that could provide turnkey delivery of a viable hands-free dispenser from end to end.
Working closely with the GP new product team, NPI eliminated "paper dependency" from the design, moved from purely mechanical to combined mechanical and electronic engineering, secured offshore manufacturing, and guided the launch of the enMotion hands-free towel dispenser. The product became a global success, generating sales over twice as high as the most optimistic projections, and NPI still coordinates the manufacturing logistics to deliver to global demand.
